Loevenstein Educare first opened it's door and hearts to the children in our community in 1991. We have grown from strength to strength over the years. We care for children from 3 months to 5 years of age and are open from 07:00am to 17:30pm.

We have a beautiful baby room with excellent facilities and stimulating and exciting class rooms.

We offer two balanced meals per day and a light snack in the mornings.

Each week our dedicated, qualified and trained staff offer educational themes and exciting activities that makes learning fun.

Your child will receive a message book in which all his daily happenings will be recorded for you to go through in the evenings.

Squirrels Leap Play School has carefully created a learning environment that stimulates learning and independence.

A large part of our teaching choices and principles are Montessori based, this leads to a system of education which is both a philosophy of child development and a motivation for guiding such growth. It is based on two important developmental needs of children: 

• The need for freedom within limits.
• A carefully prepared environment which guarantees exposure to materials and experiences.

This system of education is designed to take full advantage of the child’s desire to learn and use his or her unique ability to develop their own capabilities. Our learning environment will help the child to develop physically, cognitively, socially and emotionally. Children choose their activities from open shelves with self-correcting materials and work in distinct work areas – on tables or on rugs on the floor. The practical life exercises enhance the development of task organization and cognitive order through care of self, care of the environment, exercises of grace and courtesy, and refinement of physical movement. The sensorial materials enable the child to order, classify and describe sensory impressions in relation, length, width, temperature, mass and colour.

The Montessori maths materials, through concrete manipulative lessons, allow the child to grasp the concepts of numbers, symbols, sequence, operations and memorizing basic facts.

The language work includes oral language development, written expression, reading, and the study of grammar, creative dramatics and children’s literature. Basic skills in writing and reading are developed through the use of sandpaper letters (loose alphabet letters) and various presentations, allowing children to effortlessly link sounds and symbols and to express their thoughts in writing and drawing.

School day and ages
Squirrels Leap Play School welcomes children from 2 to 5 years of age, slightly younger children will be considered after a trial period. Our school day starts at 8.30am and ends at 12.30pm, you are welcome to start dropping off from 8.15am. We run our school terms as per the Western Cape School Calendar.

Something special
For parents who require an extra hour until 1.30pm, we offer a “holding” facility at a small extra charge.

Because Squirrels Leap Play School and Simply Swimming swim school share the same property we are delighted to offer your child a weekly swimming lesson, the cost of which is included in your school fees. Regrettably this offer is only available to children 3yrs and older,this is purely for safety reasons. Swimming will start at the beginning of February and finish at the end of November.

During the July and December school holidays we offer special holiday programs, details are made available before the end of each term.

Holiday Clubs
At Squirrels Leap Play School we offer exciting and stimulating holiday clubs during the mid-year and end of year school holidays.Typically the club is a week long, but we are happy for your child to join us on any of the days during that week and you will be able to pay for the days you come.

We welcome all children from 20 months to 5 years of age or even a little bit older with prior arrangement. Siblings,friends or even children who don’t come to our school can join us and get involved, making, baking and creating awesome works of art in the kitchen, classroom and outside.

At no extra charge we have a medical and permanent disability insurance policy covering every child in the event of an accident.

Kids Can Pre-School was established in January 2004 and offers a home-based English class for 3 and 4 year olds. Our vibrant and happy classroom is managed by 2 teachers under the leadership of Cath Williams, the Principal who has 34 years’ experience in education. With the smaller environment and plenty of personal attention, ample opportunity is given for little minds to thrive and grow, allowing them to build strong foundations for big school! . A daily theme-based programme is followed to ensure that each individual can develop and grow at their own pace, using all their senses!

AFTER SCHOOL CARE

Our in-house After School Care was instituted in January 2015. We offer two pick up options:
either between 14:45-15:00, or a later option between 16:15-16:30

HOLIDAY CLUBS

If there’s a demand, a holiday club for a week may be held at the start of the July holiday and again at the start of the December holiday. Otherwise, Kids Can is closed during school holidays and public holidays.

Playdayle is a relatively small school, thus allowing our staff to provide quality care and individual attention to our children. Our pre-primary teaching staff are all Degree or Diploma Qualified in Foundation Phase Education. We continually strive to provide an exceptionally high standard of education, while keeping abreast of innovative technology and advancements in the education sector.

Simultaneously, we recognise the importance of the holistic development of the child. Our aim is that every child who attends Playdayle will be encouraged to be developed in the Spiritual, Emotional, Physical and Academic areas of their lives. Most important of all is that every child who attends Playdayle will leave with a healthy self-image and the assurance that he or she is unique and very much loved. Religious Instruction forms an important part of our daily activities with a strong emphasis on providing our children with a loving Christian environment where they can thrive as little people in every facet of their development. Pre-schoolers will have the opportunity to attend a Children’s Church service each week during the academic term.
We recognise the need for quality childcare and peace of mind for working parents, and thus provide you with the option to enrol your child on a half-day or full day basis as well as offering extended hours of operation from 07:00 to 18:00. All full day children are provided with an afternoon sandwich or healthy snack.

Unlike most schools, we are open for 4 weeks of the school holidays, inclusive of your monthly school fee. During this period, we also offer an exciting holiday programme to older siblings up to Grade 3 on a casual basis.

OUR EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMME

Each class works according to weekly themes, utilising modern teaching methodologies in our School Readiness Programme, with the most current RNCS (Revised National Curriculum Statement) and CAP learning techniques as our reference point.

We recognise that much of the child’s learning takes place through incidental learning, play and interactive activities and thus have broadened the learning experience outside of the classroom. Our teaching methods combine the best of the more structured educational techniques as well as encouraging more independent learning while utilising various methods characterized by an emphasis on independence, freedom within limits, and respect for a child’s natural psychological, physical, and social development.

We extend the classroom into the broader community by ensuring our children go on regular Educational Outings.

At Playdayle we emphasise the importance of the Creative Arts with Music, Dance & Drama forming an integral part of our curriculum and our learners are encouraged to participate in Speech through Show-and-tell. To further support the importance of Cultural and Creative Development, drama and movement are extensively used in the classroom and our children are encouraged to take part in our regular school productions. In addition, we offer Ballet-tots as well as the Wiggle and Jam Music and Movement Programmes as extra murals.

Teamwork & Technical Skills are re-enforced through group projects and Logical & Lateral Thinking are encouraged through classroom and outdoor projects and experiments. For the growing need for mental stimulation and early development in Maths & Science, we offer Build-em-Brix as an extra mural. This provides children with an early training platform where they will learn various skills ranging from basic colours, shapes and numbers to more advanced technical and architectural proficiencies.

Entrepreneurial Skills are taught through the introduction of E.M.S. (Economic Management Science) and of course Creativity through daily arts and craft activities. Furthermore, we offer a Fine Motor Enrichment Programme which is presented by a Registered Occupational Therapists as well as the services of a Registered Speech Therapist at our premises.

To encourage Physical Development, we offer Sporting Academy where children are taught the techniques and rules of specific ball sports such as cricket, soccer and softball. We also have a well-equipped playground providing numerous opportunities to every child to develop gross motor dexterity.

We encourage Social Responsibility in our children through their participation in several charities and community programmes. Each year Playdayle adopts an impoverished preschool in our local community which our children support by donating toys, books and clothes to. We also teach and encourage our children to take care of the environment by planting trees and recycling paper and waste.

Kleine Einstein is a Registered Early Childhood Development Centre (est 2007) located in Glenlilly, Parow. Through our extended family of parents, teachers, community and service providers we aim to present the best quality of learning conditions, where young minds can be stimulated and their optimum potential unlocked during their first years of education. FUN and interesting themes are used to help develop and explore these learning areas. By implementing this platform our ECD teachers are able to assess and track each child’s progress and development throughout the school year.

Safety:

The premises is protected by electrical fencing. Both gates before the entrance are permanently locked. No unidentified person is allowed on the premises. A register must be signed by the person who collects a child. There are always two staff members on duty to open in the mornings and lock up in the afternoon. The building is also protected by Electro Alarm with panic buttons in the house. All fire extinguishers are regularly checked and replaced if necessary. We also have a well drilled fire escape plan.
The premises at 112 First Avenue for the younger Einsteins are fitted with security cameras.

Starlight Nursery School opened its doors in 1989 with a small group of children and have grown in leaps and bounds since. We are now a well-established Nursery School in our area and have parents enrolling their children with us who were themselves enrolled by their parents at Starlight Nursery School.

We are a registered nursery school located in Ottery East, Cape Town. Our school has continued to provide first class care and educational activities for children aged 4 months to 5 years old.

Fuzzy’s is a registered Early Childhood Development (ECD) centre, established in 1997. At Fuzzy’s Day Care we provide a professional full-day care service for children ages 3 months to 5 years (children with special needs, whether they are physical, emotional or educational are also catered for). As a multi-cultural, diverse Day Care we cater for, and offer your little ones the opportunity to observe and respect all religions and cultures. Our program is designed to develop a sense of independence and responsibility. We celebrate diversity and multiculturalism and strive to avoid bias in our program and to instil an attitude of respect and tolerance.

We provide a homely environment for your child whilst ensuring all of their key milestones are met. We also have a small teacher to child ratio. To ensure holistic development, as a base methodology, Fuzzy’s educators use the Emergent curriculum. For our older kids, we also follow the CAPS curriculum. Not only do we prepare them mentally for “Big” school but physically and emotionally as well.

Our operating hours are from 7h00am – 5h30pm Monday to Thursday and Fridays 7h00am – 4h30pm. We encourage all children to be at school by 8h30am and no later. Thereafter we have breakfast and start our daily programmes. 

SCHOOL FEES

Our fees increase between 5% and 10% at the beginning of each year. On admittance we require one month’s fees as a deposit (this can be split over 2 months) along with the first month’s fees. Parents must give one calendar months’ notice when leaving Fuzzy’s day care and the deposit is then used for their final month at school.  If a parent leaves the day care without giving notice, we retain the deposit to cover costs. School fees are payable by the 1st of every month.

SAFETY/ SECURITY OF CHILDREN

The education, welfare, safety and happiness of every child in our care is our most important responsibility.  This is why all our staff are trained in first aid and CPR. The school is monitored by CCTV security cameras. We also do not photograph and post pictures of the children on any of our social media sites or website.

EXTRA CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

We provide a selection of extra-mural activities. Soccercise Starz, Build em Brix, Catrobatkidz, Aqua Crazy swim school and Fitness Starz. Fees are paid directly to the instructors. New extra-murals are reviewed annually.

POTTY TRAINING

Potty training starts in the Snails Class and is normally completed in the Busy Bees class.  We have small toilets and hand washing facilities in the school. Parents provide their own nappies, wipes and bum cream which are labelled and kept at school.  

FOOD

We provide a hot breakfast at 8h30am, mid-morning fruit, home cooked nutritious lunches and afternoon snack. Any sweets or luxuries sent to school is sent back home.  We have a strictly Halaal kitchen and we can cater for most dietary requirements.  Parents to provide formula for babies.

Birthday parties are celebrated as a group and party packs will be sent home with the kids.
