Welcome

Arolela (meaning 'sharing') is a guest farm in Caledon in the Western Province of South Africa. It co-exists with a working farm, producing wheat, barley, oats and sheep. The setting is typical Overberg with lots of blue crane birds. The view alternates between canola yellow, brown, and luminous green, depending on the season. The farm is only 1 hour's drive from Cape Town, situated 14 km from Botriver, 18 km from Caledon and 45 km from both Hermanus and Greyton.

The founder of Arolela, MG Lötter, is already the 5th generation on this family farm. All the staff involved in Arolela, live on the farm as they are related to the farm workers.

Although the accommodation is self-catering, guests can select the level of catering. Our kitchen personnel can prepare traditional "boerekos" meals with meat produced on the farm. Other services such as cleaning, nanny and laundry, are also available on request. All kitchens are well equipped and high emphasis is placed on hygiene and cleanliness. Only white or cream bedding are used, of the highest quality.

Not only does Arolela serve as a useful base to the surrounding area and coastline, it also provides a safe environment where kids can play freely and adults can escape from day to day life.

Kiddies

It is the KIDDIES farm where mom and dad can relax and recharge. Formal entertainment is focused on exposing children to nature and life on a farm. The "travelin tubs" (bush Jacuzzi) also provide lots of fun. Kids love playing in the hot water and sometimes even skip the evening bath as the tubs are filled with tap water. Adults can sooth away the stress while enjoying a glass of wine in a hot tub, under the stars.

The rate for kids includes all the following activities:

Feeding of orphan lambs or calves where we supply the formula and bottles. Depending on the age of the kids and the orphan animals, they can take full responsibility for the orphan animals and prepare the bottles themselves.

Feeding of chickens and egg hunting once a day. We supply the feed and the kids may collect the eggs.

Feeding the donkey and horse with apples and carrots. We will supervise their first encounter, but thereafter they can do it as often as they like. The donkey may also be brushed and the kids can sit on her back, with supervision.

Hop on and off, under parent supervision, from any tractor, combine or bakkie during the normal working activities of the farm. This includes activities such as feeding of the sheep with a tractor and trailer, driving through the flocks to check for sick animals or ewes suffering to give birth, cleaning of drinking water, planting, spraying or harvesting the crops.

Walking and driving around on their bicycles all over the farm.

Angling at the dams or throwing stones in the dam.
